Driving north on I-55
Each new mile leaves you further behind
Tell me now the way to get back home
On this long winding river road
The Mississippi slowly rolls and winds
With kudzu vines chewingup the fence line
Tell me what we've learned and lost
Those lessons and what they cost
You're my sadness and my hope
Roling past Cape Girardeau
Traveling America
Feeling what divides us
A weathered barn warn down and gray
Sagging low under its old age
Tell me why good change is so hard
When it comes it leaves such scars
Now passing through town after town
With all these signs and flags around
Tell me how we got off track
We give grace then we take it back
Smokey sun sets in the west
And I wonder what comes next
Tell me about a dream that binds us
Instead of this broken promise

Astroman & Vega Boy
02:41
|

Astroman & Vega boy super heroes you can use
Send a flare to the sky when you got your blues
Astroman & Vega boy they'll know just what to do
Got troubles you can't solve they'll get you through
They're the ones to call don't you know
When you got nowhere else to go
Astroman & Vega Boy they ain't no clowns
When life has beat you up they won't let you down
Astroman & Vega boy they'll know just what to say
When the wheels are coming off there they are to save the day
They're the ones to call don't you know
When you're broken down in the road
Astroman & Vega Boy some say they ain't real
But when you need relief so good they'll make you feel
Astroman & Vega Boy come closer let me see
Astroman & Vega Boy I think you've got what I need

Any Kind of Weather
04:38
|
|||
Last night's half-filled water glass catches the sun
And the dinner dishes fill the sink
Or maybe it's a half-empty glass of Vodka
Sometimes the worst thing I can do is sit up and think
Been awake since six trying to not make a sound
It's eight now and already 90 degrees
Got me thinking about the end of the world
Wondering how it is you'll remember me
Rising heat makes the world shimmer
But the sky sparkles in winter
Hearts grow beetter that grow old together
Can weather any kind of weather
Semi trucks been tearing up highway 5 all night
Mixed with the sound of the old window AC
Slept like in a coma 'til a dream shook me
Dreamt you were no longer here with me
This world may be trying to burn itself out
Let's not think about that this lazy Sunday
Find a shade tree and read each other a good book
One we've read before so we know the ending
Maybe we can take a long slow walk
And put our swollen feet in a cold creek
Feel the heat drain out and wash away
Before Monday brings another long week

Thinking About You
03:20
|
|||
The sun filters through the leaves
Gives the ground a golden hue
Time comes to a crawl
Leaving me thinking about you
The phoebe sings his raspy song
Telling us humans what to do
Memories sneak behind
Leaving me thinking about you
Clouds amble across the sky
Don't know where they're going to
Endless roads to who knows where
Leaving me thinking about you
Play thos records on that old stereo
Needle's worn a little low
Love lapses and then grows
Come here and dance soft and slow
Dry leaves rattle in the wind
Life passes and renews
Just time to fall in love
Leaving me thinking about you
Crackling fire keeping time
To songs that make me blue
No matter the rhythm or rhyme
Leaving me thinking about you
Lying under the Milky way
Hoping to make it through
Hoping to make it through
Leaving me thinking about you
Leaving me thinking about you

Quit your bitching and take a look around
Time to fight with your body and cry with your heart
Cradle to grave generations repeat the same
Take a look at where you stand and that's where you start
The longer I stare at my face in the mirror
It morphs and folds into a man I don't know
I believed in meritocracy but that's a lie
It's a weapon to hold the status quo
It's hard to have hope these days
I'm so tired do you even hear my voice
End of another day that turned out the same
ONe more attack on battles we thought we left behind
Lines in sand crossed all you do is hope and pray
I see her smile come to rest and then fade
Hell we all know this road and where it goes
We're sucking the earth dray, leaving our blod behind
Barrelling past any offramp from this road
Men I think it's time for you to let go
Maybe give us a turn at the whell
You can only keep pressing that pedal down so long
Before you see this control you feel just ain't real
Sometimes all I can do is spend time alone outside walking
IN the wamrth of the sun pushing this spring wind
Turtle on a log, goslings behind a goose, frog songs and thoughts of you
Telling me pick up the pieces begin again

Mystified
03:44
|
|||
Dreams sneak in with the morning light
And they go where they go
Like cigar smoke drifts in the night
It's hard to keep ahold
Time creeps up and then passes fast
Hard to know where we've been
Like a wave your love comes
And then it comes again
Sometimes I"m mystified
By how this love thing works
Sometimes I'm mystified
By how it's both joy and hurt
Darkness can rise with the sun
I still don't understand
Tides go out and come in again
We'll walk along hand in hand
Through splendor of grace, tears and embrace
Dreams come and go
We empty the nest, hope for the best
I guess that's how this love thing grows

Growing Old Together
02:42
|
|||
Growing old together ain't always a pretty sight
We're out there on the run love trailing behind
Sometimes we drink too much sometimes not enough
Sometimes we make love and sometimes it makes us
No one writes love songs in a minor key
But real love is soft and slow with a sweet melody
Sometimes we share a laugh and sometimes it's a cry
Sometimes we don't let it go when we should let it lie
The kids are all grown and out of the house
It's so quiet round here but we never did like it loud
Those kids that we raised are the best thing I did with you
Sure they coudl call us more but glad they don't have to
Growing old together ain't always a pretty sight
We're softer and more wringkled so just turn down the lights
Walking this quiet beach now hand in hand with you
And growing old together is about all I wanna do.

An old man sat next to me in a small town bar
Gave me a nod and wink unwrapped a new cigar
With slicked back hair and a pencil thin mustache
Gave that cigar a long sniff and then put it back
Ordered a beer and a bump saif make it a few
Gave me a look and said better get him one too
Our reflectins stared back at us from behind the bar
A singer filled the place with his old Gibson guitar
Guess I didn't know what I'd find
On a bar stool down at the Mill just trying to hide
The singer he growled out a song about a Poet Game
I sat in silence thinking of those far away
The old man's eyes wrinkled with a smile so sly
He said "A man who limits his interests limits his life."
Singer sang of Mose Allison and Billy from the hills
My thoughts went to dreams died and htose fulfilled
He turned and said "Do you ever rub your eyes and suddenly find
You're awake and not asleep like you thought, just alive?"
Songs rose and fell to hymns that were left
Each beer and a bump left us more bereft
Clinking glasses for the times that we shared
He said, "It's as much fun to scare as it is to be scared."
He took another sip and set his glass next to mine
And placed my hand in his and looked me in the eyes
"I know what I like, I like art, and I like what I know."
I shook my head and Greg sang why don't you just go home

Come Again the Merciful
02:51
|
|||
Sun rise behind me
Prairie rolls like the sea
Storm clouds ahead
Breeze on my neck like your breath
Aching for those passed
Look ahead and look back
Waiting for you again
Before wind brings stinging rain
Come again the merciful
Through the darkest nights
Our loves our lives, come again
Lips numbed can't speak
Strong gives way to the meek
Winds laugh at use
Loud like a gun soft like a hug
Build up tear it down
Lightning strikes ignite the ground
Rains come put it out
Bitter taste left in my mouth
Comes a flood and then drought
Live with each other or do without
Maye we love to let go so
Lies die and truth takes hold

Come on In
03:56
|
|||
An angry frown came in the bar crying
Had his heart set tonight on dying
You'll never know your lowest of low
Until you are walking all alone
Old peanut shells on the floor just crunching
Band's playing songs about hearts thumping
That soundtrack works for drinking
But maybe not for the land of the living
Come on in she said
Whiskey or gin?
That siren is calling you again
Just come on in, come on in
There's stars behind the clouds just twinkling
Here you sit drink in hand just thinking
She's at home watching the falling snow
Wondering when you'll stumble home
An empty glass ice cubes clinking
ONe more pur don't take convincing
You'll never know her forgiveness
Until you stand up to your demons

Right Before Your Eyes
04:31
|
|||
Living inside my own heart
Is a big place to hide
Fighting off all these demons
One day at a time
Been holding on for days and days
Just trying not to breathe
Road home is paved with memories
Of hopes and dreams
That's me in your doorway
That's me on the dance floor
That's me I'm there hiding
Right before your eyes
FInally we're gonna let it rip
Big ol' nasty tears
And with pain comes the shame
And then rivers of fear
Show me a lonely old night
Desparate to sleep
Then show a broken heart
That doesn't know how to weep
Show me a long sunny day
Desparate to wake
Then show me a love
You won't forsake

With This Life
03:08
|
|||
With this life we can love
Lean on each other and rise above
With this life we can serve
One another in times of hurt
And with these hands
With this heart
We can have
peace on earth
With this life maybe just be kind
No matter the color no matter the tribe
With this life we can sing
With one voice and find strength
And with these hands
With this heart
We can have
peace on earth
And with these hands
With this heart
We can see
peace on earth
And with these hands
With this heart
We can make
peace on earth
And with these hands
With this heart
We can be
peace on earth
